SBS launches bilingual parenting podcast

SBS has launched ‘My Bilingual Family,’ a podcast for mums and dads raising their kids bilingually.

Passing a second language onto the next generation can be a real challenge in an English-speaking world, but this podcast is here to help.

Hosted by mum and Ilocano-speaker Dr Elaine Laforteza, parents will hear practical tips and expert advice in this podcast, with stories from families just like theirs.

You know the saying, ‘It takes a village to raise a child?’ Well, think of My Bilingual Family as being a village with lots of people just as interested as you are in trying to pass on languages.

We talk to all sorts of families to hear their stories, dilemmas and questions. The languages you’ll hear about reflect the diversity of Australia – from major community languages like Greek and Chinese, to smaller ones like Hebrew and Rohingya.

Learn the strategies families have come up with and receive helpful advice and practical tips from experts like speech pathologists, linguists and counsellors to find out what works and what doesn’t.

Find My Bilingual Family in Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, or the SBS Radio app to hear more.
