Sam & Ash make a splash for water safety with The Coast’s Biggest Swimming Lesson
91.1 Hot FM on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast is bringing back The Coast’s Biggest Swimming Lesson.
To be held live this Thursday from Rackley’s Swimming School at the Kawana Aquatic Centre, this year’s event will shine a spotlight on the importance of swimming lessons for kids under the age of five and raise awareness about water safety for young families across the region.
The Coast’s Biggest Swimming Lesson is a cause close to the heart of 91.1 Hot FM’s Breakfast host Ash Gierke, a former elite swimmer and swimming teacher who understands the critical role that water safety plays in saving lives.
Tragically, the majority of drownings among children under five occur in backyard pools or bathtubs.
With this in mind, Sam and Ash have teamed up with Laurie Lawrence, former Olympic swim coach and the founder of the KIDS ALIVE DO THE 5 campaign.
Launched in 1988, the campaign has saved countless young lives by promoting water safety education and swimming lessons for children.
With the urgency of this message in mind, Sam and Ash decided it was time to refresh the iconic KIDS ALIVE jingle to ensure it resonates with today’s parents.
They put out the call for an updated version of the jingle to none other than ARIA-nominated DJ Cyril, who enthusiastically joined the cause:
“I’m excited to take this jingle to the next level,” says Cyril. “By adding in guitars, removing some of the instrumentals, using a chrome master, and throwing in some drums, we’re going to make sure it sticks in people’s heads and gets the message out there.”
This week’s live broadcast will see Sam and Ash engaging with local families, kids, and experts in the field of water safety.
Parents are encouraged to bring their little ones along and participate in the live event, which will include swimming lessons, tips, and resources for ensuring water safety at home and in the pool.
