RIP Stuart Layt

Reporter

The radio industry is today mourning the loss of respected journalist Stuart Layt, who’s died at the age of just 40 following a battle with cancer.

Scott Mayman – who was Layt’s former News Director at Brisbane’s 4BC – tells Radio Today he was impressed with Stuart right from day one.

“There are some very talented and genuine people I’ve worked with in my broadcasting career. Stuart Layt is one of these people.”

“Not only was he the newsroom ‘go to’ guy for news events,  he was a genuine person.”

“What about that deep incredible voice?  After working a string of shifts, I appointed him as our Breakfast newsreader.”

“I feel fortunate that I was there with him during some incredible events, such as the Brisbane flood event of 2011. But more importantly, the events that were the lead up to his marvellous marriage.”

“I have nothing but great things to say about him.”

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has also paid tribute to Layt, who was Science and Health Reporter at the Brisbane Times.

I first met Stuart at river94.9 in 2005..

Then worked with him at 4BC.

He was a gentleman, a great journalist and all round great guy.

Woe that’s blown me away

Worked with Stu for a few years at BC. This is sad news. He’ll be missed. Gone too soon…
