RIP Father Bob

Radio is mourning the loss of the man fondly remembered as ‘The People’s Priest,’ with media personality Father Bob Maguire passing away yesterday at the age of 88.

Father Bob dedicated his life to standing up for the poor and the marginalised.

He reached a wider audience in 2005 when he would accompany John Safran on the SBS TV show Speaking in Tongues.

That same year Father Bob joined Safran on the weekly triple j show Sunday Night Safran, where, for the next decade they talked about religion, politics and “all things ethics”.

The chemistry and banter between Safran and Maguire became legendary with Safran penning the following tribute to his friend on social media.
