RIP Chris Kearns
FUNERAL DETAILS: MONDAY 22 NOVEMBER, 2PM at Macquarie Park North Ryde.
Chris Kearns passed away peacefully on Tuesday after a short battle with Cancer.
He was aged 75.
Chris Kearns worked all his life in radio at stations including 2SM, 2UW, 2UE, 2GB and more recently at Classic Hits 2CH.
In 2019, as part of the 2CH programming revamp Kearns was placed in the night slot with a show called ‘Sydney’s Tonight Alive’.
“Sydney is a big city and there is a need for people to be able to “each out and know someone is there for them,” said 2CH GM Cherie Romaro at the time. “Chris Kearns is the perfect communicator for this role. He will read listener emails, take calls, and play some great Classic Hits from the ’60s and ’70s.”
At the time, Chris called the show his dream job, “to be able to talk to listeners, listen to their stories happy, sad, loves lost, love found and play some great music. I will be there for our listeners, to have a laugh, be a shoulder to lean on, and listen to whatever they want to chat about, it’s a great privilege to be given this job and I’m so excited to be joining a such a great team.”
RIP Chris Kearns
Sad to hear this- I used to speak to Chris fairly regularly back in the early 90s when he did the evening shift on (then) 2UW.
“Christopher John come on down”
Chris passed away on Tuesday 2 November. Not ‘on the weekend’ as this article states.
Thanks OJ. We’ve amended the story.
I’m so saddened to hear of Chris Kearns untimely passing. I am a 2CH listener and I was fortunate to have spoken to Chris by making a request for one of my favourite songs. He will not be forgotten.
Rest In Peace CJK
Kearnsy was actually 74 when he passed away, on the deaths and funeral notices his DOB shows 22/11/1946 and his date of passing being 2/11/2021. Everyone who is adamant that he was 75 when he passed away is jumping the gun by 20 days. Sadly the funeral date was the day that he meant be celebrating his 75th birthday.
