“of the second metro radio ratings survey for 2024”.

Umm, it’s survey 4.

The data charts are great – good to see the battles!

Waiting to see how ARN spin a 0.0 rise in melbourne, and a sydney drop of 0.6 for K&J and a 0.6 drop for 10+i n Sydney and only a 0.2 rise for 10+ in Melbourne. I’m assuming it’ll be a bunch of “We are at the start of the rise”…even though Kiis 101.1 brekky has now dropped from tied 5th to straight 6th place for FM commercial stations.

Shows what a waste of money the secret sound/noise is. KIIS down across the day including Brisbane, no rise in Melbourne, down in Sydney, after spending >$400000 on one comp. There’s many other creative ways they could have used this money to generate content and market the show.

Every time we tell them that networking big name Sydney radio ‘personalities’ into Melbourne won’t work, we kept being told “oh, this time will be different because…”

And yet, here we are again. Another failure to throw onto the pile that includes CBC, Vega and MTR.

All that money, just for your station and networked breakfast to be LAST of the commercial FMs in Melbourne.

If I was Christian O’Connell at Gold, I’d be asking Kiis/Gold management for a pay rise saying “I’m the one that actually rates in Melbourne”!

KIIS 97.3 is a fail. Who would have thought that Brisbane doesn’t want 3x FM stations all sounding identical! 97.3 needs to return to an AC format and stop trying to be B105 and Nova. It could own the Brisbane market as Smooth 97.3

SCA Sydney is disgraceful. All that money spent on big names like Dave Hughes and Mick Molloy and 2Dayfm / Triple M are ( still ) at the bottom of the ratings. Time for a changing of the guard at SCA Content headquarters which I presume is in Melbourne where the CEO lives.

This survey in Sydney was characterised by a general decline in music-centric stations and an increase in talk/sports.

Obviously, 2GB will be the happiest with their ratings performance today. Paris 2024 and the business end of the NRL season should provide them with a decent increase during Surveys #5 & #6.

Although they all went down today (I’d imagine there’ll probably be a heavier ad push from the FMers later in July and during August), there’s really not that much separating the ratings of Smooth, KIIS and WSFM. K&JO will probably remain the #1 FM brekky show for a while though, even though the other long-running duo at North Sydney are producing considerably better content IMO.

2DayFM on the other hand, how long until they hit the reset button? A complete station relaunch on the scale of the Smooth & KIIS changeovers all those years ago would do more to generate buzz around radio in this metropolis than whatever 104.1 are doing at the moment.

What’s the deal with SEN 1170’s gradual rise in the ratings this year? Now on 2.7% (just 1% behind 2UE) after wallowing on 0.4% at the end of 2023!

Speaking of Sydney’s AM music station: Surely they’d benefit from an external ad campaign which directly targets disgruntled Smooth/WSFM listeners? Either way, ACE definitely need to stop allowing SEN to advertise on 2UE as a sponsor of Sports segments during the news!

No major surprise that the arrival of Kyle & Jackie O hasn’t done much for KIIS 101.1 in Melbourne. In light of those Nova 100 brekky ratings (however temporary that lift may turn out to be), ARN surely must be regretting the decision to let go of Jase & Lauren in favour of the $200 Million duo? Despite that, I’m somehow still expecting K&JO brekky to be relayed on KIIS 97.3 Brisbane in 2025.

I feel Melbourne people got offended by Kyle saying that stuff about Melbourne ( his approach to AFL and localisms)…. It looks like he doesn’t want to know Melbourne as a city and people living there….
Maybe they should play rivalry card between Sydney vs Melbourne…do some competition etc…. I think Melbourne doesn’t want to listen celebrities in the morning like they are.
Or maybe they should start from Brisbane….
As I predicted they lost listeners in Sydney again…. they don’t mention anymore Sydney stuff on the air….

Nova Brisbane and Adelaide were thriving for so many years under local management.

Surprise surprise, after all the redundancies, networking and centralised CD, both markets fallen dramatically against opposition.

The writing was on the wall of the ratings results at end of 2023.

Jase & Lauren have not only regained all their share they finished with on KIIS. They did it WITHOUT giving away tickets to see Taylor Swift!

I know. I’m as shocked as the next person that they must finally be credited for having talent.

Fun fact: “Campbell points to Taylor Swift ticket promotions as a factor behind the uplift in those (final 2023 KIIS) Breakfast ratings.”

It still makes me laugh.

Well done to Nova 100.

It doesn’t take away from K&J being a good offering but it isn’t such a surprise that KIIS 101.1 may have accidentally given publicity to a program they let go, helping the ongoing organic growth of a program that’s Melbourne-centric, not just Melbourne-based.

After all, K&J in Sydney are arguably a bigger brand than KIIS 1065 itself. So too, it’s now revealed, Jase & Lauren, having developed for many years (growing out of original Jase & PJ Show) was the most successful programming to have come out of KIIS 101.1 in a long time.

A trend arguably predates end of 2023 but it wasn’t well appreciated until that spike in publicity, focused as much on Jase & Lauren getting axed as K&J arriving, then repeated with Nova picking them up and getting them to air ahead of K&J launch, a key ingredient to Jase & Lauren jumping ship as K&J did in 2014.

In a market long dominated by 3AW, Gold, Smooth and Fox, it’s noted that Nova was also the fastest growing station.

@Jay

I’d have to agree about Nova Brisbane. The loss of a local PD was a slippery slope. They also lost Ange who was part of the heritage sound. Bring her back! (don’t know where she’s gone as she’s not on KIIS 97.3 anymore) Their networking of news from Sydney has changed the natural vibe. I hardly think recycling “Handball Blitz” as their latest tactic is going to win more ratings too. Let’s hope it can pick up from here. It was the pinnacle for so long.

4BC’s daytime ratings are ordinary except Nights With John Stanley which rates number one in Brisbane. Well done John.
