Radio celebrates International Women’s Day

Reporter

Today is International Women’s Day, and radio stations across Australia are celebrating accordingly. Here’s just a sample:

Melbourne’s 3MP is playing only female artists between 9am and 5pm.

Metro Content Director Jon Vertigan tells Radio Today 3MP has something of a unique edge, in that its announcers are predominantly female, with Emily Canning on air from 9am to 2pm Cathy Jubb hosting 2pm to 7pm and Julie Strini (main picture) from 7pm until midnight.

“International Women’s Day is an important day on the calendar to show our appreciation and admiration for our women of radio,” he says.

ARN’s iHeart is recognising the amazing achievements of women in music, from a station takeover on iHeartAustralia to the many female-driven podcasts hosted on the network, including Life Uncut with Britt & Laura, Rise and Conquer, She’s on the Money and Crime Junkie.

Female artists being showcased include Amy Shark, The Veronicas, Thelma Plum, Jessica Mauboy and Missy Higgins, to name a few.

On the sporting front, RSN Racing and Sport is celebrating International Women’s Day across all its programs.

Breakfast with Harf from will catch up with Australia’s leading female sports stars plus Jaimee Rogers from the TAB will discuss her rise in the sporting media ranks.

Racing Pulse host Michael Felgate will chat with jockey Carleen Hefel.

Raceday on RSN will chat about racing’s three codes. In the studio, Miracle Mile winning driver Kate Gath, leading greyhound trainer Brooke Ennis and Racing Victoria’s Lauren Moor will discuss just how strong each code has become around female participation.

The station says “RSN Racing and Sport is keen to highlight that whatever the gender, racing is an industry that provides equal opportunities to all.”

This year, the United Nations is celebrating International Women’s Day under the theme DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.
