Last week, Mix 104.9 Breakfast co-hosts Leisha Brodyk and Daniel Hilliard undertook a remarkable and challenging trek, broadcasting live as they walked from the RAAF Base in Darwin to the Robertson Barracks, a journey of around 14 kilometres.

Soldiers and local supporters also pulled on their boots to smash out the walk, all to raise awareness and funds for the not-for-profit organisation Soldier On.

Despite humidity and rain, the team broadcast the entire show from mobile phones back to the Mix 104.9 studio as they walked.

On the day, they were joined by around 150 ADF personnel and 30 civilians, along with a representative from RSPCA NT with the Rescue dog Majesty, Minister for Veterans Affairs Brent Potter and Solomon MP Luke Gosling, who earlier in the week explained the initiative a speech to Parliament.

He said “The tradition started as a way for Daniel Hilliard from Mix 104.9 to wrap up the March on Challenge for not-for-profit Soldier On and it’s grown into a proud Darwin tradition.”

“It’s a great way to celebrate Soldier On’s awesome work providing mental health and support services and connections for those transitioning from the ADF to civilian life.”

Local businesses Murray Oakley Retravision donated $5 for every honk from motorists during the morning, raising $250.

This was amount was then doubled, resulting in over $500 in donations from the local business.

CDC Bus Services also supported the march, providing a bus service during the entire 14km walk.

RAAF to Robbo began at 5:30am last Friday morning and was completed around 8:40am, to a huge cheer from all involved.
