One of the Original Pirates Dies

One of the original pirates of New Zealand’s Radio Hauraki, Chris Parkinson has died just days before his 75th birthday.

Hauraki turns 50 this year and Chris Parkinson along with David Gapes, Denis O’Callahan and Derek Lowe – co-founded the original iconic pirate radio station. They came together aboard the good ship Tiri, in international waters launching Radio Hauraki  to the mainland.

Together they are credited with introducing New Zealand listeners to The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and more.
