NZME’s merge with SEA FM fuels expansion to Coromandel

Staff Writer

Last week saw the announcement of NZME’s expansion into popular coastal town Coromandel, however an update today clarifies that the move was made possible due to a merge with SEA FM.

Started by former Australian radio guy Darren Moss and his New Zealand wife Bobbie-Jo, regional radio network SEA FM has been broadcasting across the Coromandel Peninsula region since 2014.

According to Moss, SEA FM has been both a challenging and rewarding journey for the pair.

“From the outset, we always wanted to create something great that serves the Coromandel region, where my family have lived for more than thirty years,” he said.

“We started small in 2014, with a single site and one transmitter, growing the Coromandel’ radio station into four sites and now a fifth. At some point we were going to need help growing the station whilst being able to continue serving the community. That time has now come.”

Moss explained that over the past few years, SEA FM has built a solid working relationship with NZME, who assisted with news and content – providing the perfect foundation for the merge.

The Hits Coromandel will launch on December 1, with The Hits’ Sarah, Sam & Toni for breakfast, mornings with SEA FM talent Darren, then Dave in the early afternoons, followed by Stace & Flynny for the drive home.

“The Hits is a great new era of music and entertainment, building on the foundation of SEA FM,” Moss added.

Another example of what’s possible in a deregulated radio market.

Pitty its for a poor radio station. Coromandel lose a very good local freq for a very below average offering.
This is a Xmas present for a local More FM and The Breeze

Its time for the other radio stations to lift their game, they have been asleep at the wheel for far too long. It will be great to have variety and hopefully better music to listen too. Congratulations to team SEAFM.
