Nova’s Ben Ryan prepares for State of Origin promos (AUDIO)

Staff Writer

Nova is taking a light-hearted approach to its warm up for State of Origin Game 1 on Wednesday.

Ben Ryan – Nova 106.9’s production manager – has again been hard at work, creating parody songs about this year’s upcoming series.

He pokes fun at NSW star Boyd Cordner’s chin in a parody remix of Calvin Harris’ single Slide, while taking a stab at Jarryd Hayne’s code-switching and questionable squad selection to the tune of Niall Horan’s Slow Hands.

The game’s #1 player Johnathan Thurston was also in Ryan’s sights, backed by the driving rhythm of There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back by Shawn Mendes.

The halfback was forced to withdraw from the Queensland squad for Game 1 due to an ongoing shoulder injury. It marks the first time the Cane Toads will play an Origin game without Thurston since 2004.

Ryan suggests his teammates “wheel him around” the field in a chair just to get him out on the park, indicating that Queensland will be hard-pressed to claim a victory without their captain.
