Nova 106.9’s Ben Ryan explains stations can’t compete with Spotify on ‘Prodcast’

Nova 106.9’s Ben Ryan is the latest to join Dom Evans on the Prodcast, discussing all this audio production and a 14-year career with NOVA Entertainment.

Ryan is production manager for Nova Brisbane and has been since station launch in 2004. He’s made a name for himself with his irreverent production style and clever writing.

Evans calls him a ‘force to reckon with’ and is excited to have Ben join him for this episode.

“I love Ben’s work. The sound he’s carved out for Nova 106.9 is outstanding. To be still maintaining a winning sound for a station 14 years after launch is impressive.

“I think it’s testament to the fact that great production and branding plays a key role in the success of radio stations.”

In Episode 4, they discuss the strategy of stations becoming as uncluttered as possible to compete with streaming services and Ben offers an insight into how he tackles it.

“You’re never going to be able to compete Spotify in terms of being un-cluttered because it’s as un-cluttered as you can get.

“I want to go the other way, I want to offer some content to make people love the station despite its shortcomings”.
