Nine has appointed a new chief financial officer, with Maria Phillips to take on the role from the end of the month.

Phillips is a Certified Practising Accountant, an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and will report to Nine’s CEO Hugh Marks.

She takes on the role effective August 31, across Nine’s assets which include Nine Radio’s suite of stations including 2GB, 2UE, 3AW, 4BC, 6PR and more.

“I am delighted to appoint Maria to the role of CFO,” Marks said.

“Maria has extensive experience across a broad range of consumer-related industries, including media.

“Her track record of driving strategy and transformation, particularly in the digital and technology space, will prove invaluable during this period of change in the media sector. And her passion and energy will mean she is a great fit with our leadership team at Nine.”

Phillips was recently the CFO at Velocity Frequent Flyer, where she played a key role through the sale process of private equity’s stake to Virgin.

She also previously held senior executive roles at Telstra, Foxtel and SingTel Optus.

“I am excited about joining Nine at this time. I have been so impressed by what the Company has achieved, as it transforms to the digital age, and look forward to contributing to that continuing evolution,” Phillips said.

“I feel a real affinity to the media sector, and in Australia, Nine is the stand-out – well positioned to continue to grow and re-define its business and I am looking forward to being part of that.”

Nine’s radio assets, which it took control of after buying Fairfax in late 2019, rebranded from Macquarie Media to Nine Radio in January of 2020.
