Nic McClure: Radio Today Podcast Awards are a chance for producers to shine

Producers are generally humble people, according to Nic McClure, Senior Executive Producer for LiSTNR Original Podcasts.

And she says that’s all the more reason for them enter the 2023 Radio Today Podcast Awards.

Nic – who has twice won Podcast Executive Producer of the Year – tells Radio Today “We usually put the needs of our show, hosts and the team before our own, in fact we need to take a modest view of ourselves to do our jobs effectively.”

“So to have the opportunity once a year to shine the light back on ourselves and our work – it’s really special.”

Nic says the awards offer a fantastic opportunity for producers to showcase their work, not just within their organisation, but to the industry as a whole.

“Being a producer can be a tough job. We often work long hours under pressure, with big personalities, so to have an award that recognises all that hard work is a good reason to enter.”

“The process itself of entering is also a great opportunity to reflect on the work you’ve done, while you’re writing out your accomplishments, highlights and growth, that in itself is a huge motivation.”

Nic says being a previous winner has had a positive effect on several fronts.

“After ‘pivoting’ and moving to Podcast producing after 24 years of live radio, it was very rewarding to receive this industry acknowledgement for my first two years of work in On-Demand audio.”

“As we know, networking for a producer is crucial, everyone has the potential to be a good contact for you, so maintaining visibility within and outside of the industry through Radio Today is also important to me.”

“Plus, it’s a cool thing to put in your LinkedIn bio.”
