Newcastle Survey 1: all commercial stations lose share

The first Newcastle survey result for 2014 has been released, the results are here.

All commercial stations have lost overall share in this first survey under GfK with NXFM being the main station hit.

KOFM remain #1 in the market but went down 2.6 10+ to be on a 16.1%. ABC1233 move into 2nd from 4th with triple j in 3rd and NXFM falling 6.4 to be 4th placed on 10.3%.

Station by station analysis is below :-

KOFM slipped back 2.6 with 10+ and lost ground in 40-54, down 9.0 to be on 21.8% (still #1). They also dropped 5.3 with 55-64 and are now second place behind ABC1233.

All shifts lost share again this survey but they remain #1 in breakfast with the new pairing of Tanya Wilks and Steve G (left). Afternoons, drive and weekends are also #1. 

ABC Local Radio have had a ripper with a jump from 4th place in the Newcastle market to be 2nd on 12.0%. They are now #1 55-64 due to an increase of 5.9 with that demo.

The breakfast shift has moved up to 2nd, up 2.1 to 16.6%. The ABC had good increases across all other shifts with nights in particular up 5.6 to now be #1.

triple j went up half a point and remain in 3rd behind KO and ABC1233. Their main wins came from 18-24 and 40-54 but also remain #1 18-39.

Breakfast was flat with a small increase in the workday and drive is down 1.7.

At NXFM, they took a hit pretty much everywhere this survey. 10+ they dropped 6.4 to 10.3% and move from 2nd to 4th behind KOFM, ABC1233 and triple j. Their demo figures don't make for good reading with 10-17's their only strong demo this survey. They fell 14.4 with 18-24's, 7.6 with 25-39's and 12.1 with 40-54's.

Sophie, Heath & Normy (left) dropped 6.9 to be =3rd with 2HD on 9.8%. Similar figures can be seen across the day with falls of around 6.

2HD are down 1.1 and are 5th this survey on 8.8%, 0.4 in front of sister station New FM. They hold onto the #1 65+ title and now have the =3rd breakfast show in Newcastle.

New FM are down 1.5 and are now 6th in the market on 8.4%. 18-24 was the their demo highlight, up 6.2.

Breakfast dropped 1.9 to 6.5% with their workday taking a bit of a hit but drive is up 1.8 to 10.7% and the highest rating shift on the station.
