Newcastle Ratings: Triple M remains #1, NEWFM starts to slip in Survey 2
Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) Triple M and Hit brands remain the dominant players in the competitive market of Newcastle, according to the latest GfK survey released today.
Triple M’s share in people 10+ climbed again this book, up 0.4 points to 18.7%, while sister station Hit was steady on 14.9% when compares to the first survey of the year.
This is the second survey for the regional market since figures were released in May last year. The remaining two surveys were cancelled with GfK and Commercial Radio Australia (CRA) citing difficulties with fieldwork and resources due to COVID-19.
The Newcastle ratings figures also take into account listening via streaming for ABC, Triple M and Hit. 2HD and NEWFM, however, do not have streaming figures included.
The Super Radio Network’s NEWFM was down 1.6 points to 9.4%, while sister station 2HD was steady on a 6.1% share.
In Breakfast, Triple M’s Tanya Wilks and Steve Graham maintained their dominance, sitting on 20.%, down 0.3 points from last survey.
Hit’s Nick, Jess & Ducko were in second place for Breakfast, down 0.6 points to 13.5%.
NEWFM’s Jade, Matty & Krivo took the biggest hit in Breakfast, slipping 1.2 points to a 8% share.
What’s changed at New FM. They where on the edge of getting it together over the last 3 – 5 years even with a slightly dated sound and programming style. The horse seems to have bolted now. Lots of negativity starting to come out of there over the past few moths too.
NEWCASTLE Newy 87.8 fm the one for me
Killer Triple J survey! Tied 2nd 10+ and #1 in Drive.
Triple J would be close to being the No.1 station for under 40s and under 54s in Newcastle.
Not bad for a fringe station
Jase Allen for the win – what a legend! Well done sir. Absolutely smashing it with both your stations.
SurelyTriple J breakfast at 13.9 is the #2 FM breakfast here. Hit would be 3rd.
Jade, Matty & Krivo, Nick, Jess & Ducko , nothing on Huey Dewy or Louie ?
Surely Triple J at 13.9% is the #2 FM breakfast for Newie. Hit would be #3.
Isn’t it amazing when good things happen with SCA product everyone here shuts their mouths.
The trolls from the other radio groups, and those with vendettas against the company, just can’t seem to actually put their hands up and say, “well done.”
To everyone at SCA Newcastle, you do great work. It’s obviously noticed and loved in the market. Keep going!
Seriously, winning radio surveys in Newcastle by SCA against the BOG opposition is equal to pretending to work up a sweat for a few months three times a year to inevitably rock up to your next arm wrestle challenge against your grandmother. There’s a cemetery at Sandgate and for that’s for good reason. Even some radio stations are buried there too.
New FM was my station but I stopped listening when Jade Matty & Krivo came on. I’m not old but I felt like I was listening to a bunch of school kids so I now only tune in for Kate Tim & Marty in the afternoon.
@bonkers I guess, the reason we didn’t put our hand up and say well done is, you beat the super radio network and equaled JJJ.
You beat, the most run-down network in the history of networks.
And the ABC.
So you should have.
All this does is really show how little youth representation Newcastle radio really has.
Triple J and nothing else, no community radio, no youth oriented stations, nothing that youth / under 40 adults in Sydney and Melbourne would put on instead of the garbage Newcastle has to offer.
The closest products representing Youth Programming in Newcastle would be “Homebrewed” and “On Air with Brandon Atkins” on Coast FM Gosford. Shame Newcastle doesn’t have anything for the Under 40s.
