New 2GB roles in 2023 for Michael McLaren and Luke Grant

Reporter

Respected broadcasters Michael McLaren and Luke Grant will step into new roles at 2GB in 2023, with McLaren taking the helm of 2GB Weekend Mornings and Grant moving in to present Overnights across 2GB and 4BC.

McLaren started his radio career at 2GB in 2006 as a program producer. His on-air career kicked off in 2011, first hosting 2GB’s Weekend Overnight program before taking on Australia Overnights Monday-Friday in 2016.

On his new role as 2GB Weekend Mornings host, McLaren says “I very much look forward to inheriting a special part of 2GB’s broadcasting schedule and providing our audience with a platform to debate, learn, laugh, reminisce and discuss. Whilst I’ll bring my own interests to the microphone, my years at 2GB have taught me that talk radio is at its best when the audience drives the agenda. And so, Weekends will be a reflection of the issues Sydney is talking and thinking about.”

“I also want to thank the thousands of people who were loyal to my Overnight program for so many years. We became like family and I hope many of you will be able to join me and many new listeners over the weekends ahead.”

Grant has built a loyal following off the back of a broadcasting career spanning more than 30 years. Most recently, he’s enjoyed great success hosting the Money News program on 2GB, 3AW and 4BC.

Grant says “I’ve been at this institution with the best in the business for 13 years, and I relish every challenge and opportunity that comes my way. What I particularly love about Overnights is it’s where people turn for company, and I’m thrilled to have the chance to give that to our 2GB and 4BC listeners, as well as the first live and local news coverage of the day.”

2GB Content Manager Luke Davis says “We’re absolutely delighted to bring our listeners more of their favourite broadcasters in 2023.”

“Michael McLaren’s performance over the past decade has been outstanding, with listeners warming to his intelligence, quick wit and knack of breaking down complex issues. His ability to cover anything from the news of the day, to travel, sport, home improvement, cars, technology, health and nostalgia – with equal aplomb – makes him the perfect companion on Weekends.

“Luke Grant, meanwhile, has proven himself as one of Australia’s most versatile and popular radio broadcasters. Over recent years, he has filled in for just about every program and format on the station, so we’re excited for Luke to make Overnights his own from 2023.”

I live at Cremorne Point and as a 2GB listener, Michael McLaren has disrupted my sleep for many years. He is an amazing and a compelling fellow. His quick wit and his intelligent mind are a wonderful combination.
Luke Grant is a different type, he is a brilliant broadcaster loaded with common sense. His sense of humour is to die for.
So congratulations 2GB, you have held two key players.

Luke is great whatever shift he does – i’m not sure if Michael can cut a show to keep me interested on a Saturday morning – he is more suited to overnights – personally i like Pete Davis on a Saturday and Sunday mornings when he resumes in February on 2SM – if you cannot raise interesting talk back subjects that people can join in then it’s curtains – matter of taste in radio.

Oh Michael I will miss yours and Gazzas banter. I would stay awake until I heard you both. Good luck on your new venture sadly missed.

I stopped listening to the Money show When Luke Grant did it and I certainly will not be listening to Australia Overnight and for 1 reason and 1 reason only, his political bias is appalling, no matter what subject, he is always putting his far right Liberal views. NOT FOR ME

Absolutely love listening to Mike McLaren and it is so refreshing that he is middle-of-the-road and not a raging lefty. I also love listening to Luke Grant, a very balanced host. Nothing worth listening to in Melbourne and thank goodness for the 2GB phone app.

About time Michael McLaren received a more fitting radio time slot. He’s the most underrated broadcaster in Australia and should have replaced Alan Jones in the 2GB breakfast slot. However, now that the woke Nine have taken over, Michael would have been too much like Alan Jones, so a more moderate (and boring) choice was made.

Michael, There was an April Fools joke played at Penrith years ago. It was a front page story in the local paper about a naval frigate which appeared on the Nepean River next to the old Victoria Bridge. Obviously it had come up the Hawkesbury/Nepean, over the weir and stopped near the bridge. The local defence big wigs were up in arms because nobody told them it was coming, they would have organised a welcoming committee. I have not seen or heard anything about this, and have tried looking it up in the archives with no luck, Would Jim know anything about it.

Saturday and Sunday mornings are great now with Michael.
Can’t you get Luke out of darkness into a day time show ? 4.30 to 5.30am isn’t enough for this believer..
