More SCA redundancies on the Gold Coast

90.9 SeaFM and 92.5 Triple M Gold have shed content directors Kim Czosnek and Corey Kay. Czosnek has worked for SCA for 13 years, Kay more than two decades.

Staff were made aware of the redundancies yesterday. The news comes after Triple M rebranded to Gold last Friday and six weeks since SeaFM cut Bianca Dye and Ben Hannant from the breakfast show, keeping Danny Lakey and bringing Bronte Langbroek to join him from Hit Queensland.

With both gone it is unknown if SCA will bring someone in to do the role across both stations, or operate without CDs on the Gold Coast for the foreseeable future.

Radio killed the radio star. We’re cannibalising our own industry.

When does the person who’s been making these decisions to cut talented programmers over the last couple of years come under scrutiny?

As a SCA shareholder who isn’t keen on the ARN deal, these kind of decisions makes me think that selling to ARN and Co may be a better outcome for my money.

Surely investment in critical talent to differentiate the product offering in the face of the very local Hot Tomato makes sense. IMO SCA needs to be investing in talent, content and localisation in large provincial markets like the GC, taking short term P&L pain to create long term value for shareholders.

Everyone we need to stop fighting over these decisions. They are necessary for an industry that is in rapid decline. It’s great that Hot Tomato is rating. The issue is no one cares anymore.

Let’s all chill and work out whats next.
