More FM’s Brent Harbour farewells radio after 36 years

Brent Harbour of New Zealand’s More FM Rodney, north of Auckland, has announced he is leaving radio after 36 years in the industry.

In the announcement published on LinkedIn, Brent said he has “decided to try something new for 2023.”

“I will miss my More FM Rodney family, the last seven years have been wonderful, I have made so many more friends and had great opportunities to get to know wonderful people in our community and be involved in some fabulous events,” said Brent.

On his way out, Brent shared his thoughts on the value of local radio.

“Despite what you hear from some in the radio industry, local radio is alive and well, I have lived it for the last 7 years. More FM Rodney serves its community, listeners and clients well, with a passion for where we live,” said Brent

“Radio is still a wonderful industry, and I love it very much, it has been part of my life since I started at age 19 at Magic 91 FM in Takapuna.”

“I have had the privilege of working with the most wonderful broadcasters over the years, people I have admired and been inspired by, life-long friends who I have learnt so much from and who I hugely respect.”

“Will I miss being on air, yes, will I miss the 3.45 am alarm, no!”

“Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my career. I look forward to wonderful challenges ahead in 2023.”

No one lives and breathes radio like Brent! An absolute honor to work with someone who shared my passion for radio and was a great support during those interesting times at that station overseas that will remain nameless! Enjoy the much-deserved sleep-in!

Worked with Brent briefly at POWER FM in Nowra back in the 90s. A great radio man. Best wishes mate.

I met Brent when he was at Big FM but heard him for years on More FM Auckland beforehand. All the best for your next move.
