Mick Molloy to co-host brand-new Triple M Sydney Breakfast show

Reporter

Mick Molloy is returning to his spiritual home on Triple M, joining Triple M Sydney for a brand-new show with Mark ‘MG’ Geyer to shake up Sydney Breakfast.

SCA said details about how exactly the show will work will be released early 2023.

Mick and MG in the Morning will bring Triple M listeners a fresh new Breakfast offering but also the familiar voice of Molloy and his legendary radio antics.

Natarsha Belling will join the show as newsreader.

Molloy has spent the better part of the last three decades with SCA and the last 11 years with Triple M building many of its legendary shows including Martin/Molloy, the no. 1 daytime show* Tough Love, seven years on Melbourne’s The Hot Breakfast, three years in the Triple M Drive slot with Jane Kennedy, and then another year with his national Molloy Drive program, which was regularly no. 1 nationally for men aged 25-54***, before calling last drinks in 2021.

Molloy is also the host of the Seven Network’s AACTA-winning sports entertainment show, The Front Bar.

Sydney Breakfast radio is a mountain Molloy is yet to climb and he is up for the challenge of creating yet another legendary show, and he says “I’m excited to be returning to my spiritual home at Triple M and look forward to getting amongst it, in the Sydney breakfast radio scene.”

“After a year away from the radio waves I wanted a new challenge and Sydney is the perfect opportunity. I’m also looking forward to working with MG and swapping stories. And if this doesn’t work out, I’ll throw my hat in the ring at The Project. I hear there’s an opening.”

SCA Chief Content Officer, Dave Cameron says “Mick Molloy has Triple M blood running through his veins, and to bring Mick back to headline Triple M Sydney breakfast is a triumph.

“He is truly one of Australia’s greatest radio performers and we know that his legendary style of radio comedy already resonates for Sydney listeners from his previous successful stint in Drive.”

“Molloy and MG are an incredibly charismatic pairing who will wake up Sydney with Triple M’s unique irreverence and energy, and a show that won’t sound like anything else in Sydney.”

Jess Eva, who co-hosted the 104.9 Triple Breakfast show with MG, will not return to the show next year but will stay in the Triple M family in 2023.

I’m afraid they kept the wrong person from this year’s show. Jess is such a great talent.

Mick won’t resinate the Sydney listeners, similarly why Kyle won’t work with Melb listeners.

Could we get clarification as to whether Mick will be moving to Sydney or not. please. This is a major question, as in the past it certainly hasn’t worked when the person is in another city. All the quotes from SCA were very careful not to mention he will be moving, so it looks like they’ll be making the same mistake again. Having said that, I’m sure it was SCA who approached Mick and not the other way around. Therefore, we know who has the upper hand, at this stage.

My guess is Triple M are about to find out just how much they needed Pagey to hold together a breakfast show!

They need to bring up Rosie Walton to join the team. She held the house of MMM’s breakfast in Melbourne together with Mick and Ed for years. Ed is as Melbourne as MG is for Sydney. Can’t wait to listen!

from a long time listener of MMM, from the days of Uncle Doug & the Veggies (none of which can ever be replaced), Not sure if Mick Malloy (personally not a fan) can hold a candle to Mark G who is hilarious. Will miss Jess and Pagey but time will tell.

Who listens to FM breakfast radio anyway? Shite music interspersed with hit and Miss attempts at humour. Hardly worth waiting for.
