Mark Levy to host 2GB Mornings in 2025
Mark Levy will take the reins from the retiring Ray Hadley and host 2GB Mornings in 2025. Mark is a well liked, multi award winning broadcaster who has been a regular fill-in for Ray and Ben Fordham on Breakfast over his 18 years with the station.
Levy began as a sports broadcaster, now having covered NRL finals, State of Origins and Olympic Games as part of the Wide World of Sports and The Continuous Call Team. He will continue those roles on Friday Nights and Saturdays during the NRL season.
He has won six Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs), including for Best News Coverage this year (see above), for his involvement on-air in the aftermath of the Bondi Junction attacks alongside Ben Fordham and Will Bottom.
2GB Content Manager, Luke Davis said:
“Over almost two decades, Mark Levy has proven himself to be one of Australia’s most gifted, hard-working and versatile broadcasters – and a favourite of 2GB listeners. As we usher in a new era of 2GB Mornings, Mark will make the 9.00am-12.00pm timeslot his own, with a fresh take on what matters most to Sydneysiders.”
Mark Levy said:
“As a young kid I grew up listening to the talkback kings and to be taking over a timeslot that’s been owned by a mentor and a friend for the last 20 years is something I am excited about and extremely honoured to do. I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead and I can’t wait to speak to our loyal listeners every morning about the issues affecting them in what’s shaping up as an important election year.”
Mark commences on 2GB Mornings from Monday 16th December, exactly 18 years to the day since he started at 2GB, and will broadcast throughout the summer period.
As an announcer, I dont think Mark Levy will have anywhere near the traction of Hadley. I find that he seems to want to ‘shout’ all the time, as opposed to talk on the radio. I hope he can break that habit and talk to listeners. I understand the reasoning behind putting him on there, summer replacement and exposure to audience, etc, however, I think someone like Clinton Maynard would have been an option.
Whilst the audience is getting older, as shown even by Fordham, you need to still cater for them, as young people dont listen to Talkback like the older generations.
Its a challenge that, thankfully, I dont need to face!
Oh, and in the mix I forgot Jason Morrison! Now, that would have been something to listen to!
Mark Leavy was always the parent to ray.
Mark whilst good in sport reporting is unproven as a stand alone host. I can’t see Mark be a rating winner but what would l know.
Well done Mark could 2gb list the summer line up for the other presenter’s thank you Ray will be miss but deserves a break
It will be interesting to see how Mark goes if 2SM appoints Jason Morrison or Chris Smith in the same time slot and whether listeners will stay with 2GB or move to 2SM.
Yeah, I agree that Mark Levy probably won’t have anywhere near the same level of ratings traction as Ray Hadley although there aren’t really many (if any) newer radio presenters still doing that old school “shock jock” style made famous by Jones, Laws, Hadley, etc. Kyle Sandilands might once his time on FM comes to an end but that’s about it really.
Stranger things have happened, but I highly doubt 2SM will hire Chris Smith.
Jason Morrison is probably more likely for 2SM’s Morning shift.
Either way, I suspect some of 2GB’s listeners will start heading to 2SM in 2025 but it may take a couple of years for the revitalised 1269AM to be a serious competitor for 873AM.
That said, I’d also suggest that 2SM still needs locally based presenters outside the brekky and morning shifts…because I doubt any of the “no names” from 2HD currently relayed on 1269AM during most other timeslots will be an attraction for Sydney listeners.
Another well-fed, middle age, white bloke on talk radio?
