Lachy Mansell to depart Kyle and Jackie O Show

When Kyle and Jackie O launched on KIIS 101.1 in Melbourne, Lachy Mansell rejoined the team in the new city as a producer and part of the show’s cast. After a year Lachy is stepping out of radio to become Head of Motorsport at One Raceway.

Many of you will have first met Lachy when he and partner Kiera won the reality TV show, and many fans, as a contestant of Beauty and the Geek in 2021. He was then the head of his own motorsports media company, and a trained journalist, with KIIS 1065 and Kyle and Jackie employing him as a Sydney producer after the show wrapped up.

Lachy also hosted a solo workdays program on Power FM Ballarat before being enticed back to KIIS.

Lachy said on LinkedIn:

“This announcement does mean I’ll be finishing up with the Kyle and Jackie O Show, and I want to thank them and the wider ARN crew for taking me on the radio journey. It’s been a fun time, I’ve learned a lot and been fortunate enough to work alongside some great people who I’ll continue to call friends.

I still have a few weeks left with KJ, finishing up on 6 June before starting my new job shortly afterwards. Looking forward to the next phase of my career, exciting times ahead!”

Earlier this week Lachy and fellow KIIS team member Intern Pete shared a reel about the power of words to highlight the devastating impact of bullying:

A massive congratulations to Lachy! Back to his roots.

RE: Do it for Dolly Day video… it doesn’t sit right with me wheeling out the two members of the show that Kyle ridicules most consistently to do a video speaking out about bullying. You can’t treat somebody the way they have been treated and then use them as an example against bullying.

@Anon,

Do you realise the staff banter is a joke ??

It’s not real, it’s showbiz.

@ Anon

Pete here.

Appreciate the concern, but what you’re hearing on the air are friends having a laugh and ribbing one another. You’re entitled to feel the way you feel, but I have to correct you on trying to make me out to be a victim of bullying, when I’m actually having a laugh with my mates. I think trying to paint Kyle as this hideous bully is counterproductive to tackling real bullies and cheapens the actual harm that bullying does. Mates joking around with one another for a laugh on the radio is not bullying. As I said, appreciate the concern, Anon, but you’re barking up the wrong tree here.

WOW Anon; Print your name. Stop being a keyboard warrior. You clearly don’t understand character roles and how content creation happens.

Intern Pete is one of their long term employees/friend if that’s the case he wouldn’t be still working with them and be friends with them after these years. Also friends banter with each other.

@ everybody

I understand mates bantering.

But not everybody will – people that have been involved around the show will know its a joke, but people in the community might not.

Think about optics – the casual listener hears ridicule, and then hears those people being brought out to talk about the impact of bullying.

I apologise that my words appeared to be white-knighting to you Pete, I didn’t mean to imply that I knew the exact dynamic of your relationship with Kyle, but it’s more about what the kids hear in the car. The kids don’t hear the stuff that happens off mic, they don’t hear the respect that Kyle and you obviously have for eachother – they hear ‘Pete you bloody idiot, can’t you do anything right??’.

Again, I apologise for making it appear that there is not an element of respect within the show, but I will not apologise for the implication that optics are different to reality. From an uneducated eye, in the last 6 weeks they have tried to publicly pressure staff into physical encounters (KJ Dig), and then brought them out to talk against bullying.

Theres a fine line being walked, and the show needs to be wary of not flying too close to the sun.

Anon is correct

Anon is completely correct.
The other comments here have completely missed the point. One may say ARN HR have also completely missed what’s actually happening.
Pete, we’re all comforted you’re ok. But that’s not the issue.
The issue is that it’s public ridicule and bullying happening. Nothing less. It’s how the audience hear it. And saying it’s just banter and joking is not how it will be interpreted by the audience.
Akin to Jonah from ‘Summer Heights High’ hurting people but then telling the teacher “But I was just joking Miss!”
ARN HR response required. Do they allow this behaviour in other departments?
