Kyle Sandilands and the mystery text message

Say what you want about KIIS 1065’s Kyle Sandilands (and who hasn’t had something to say about him) but the man knows how to create engaging content out of just about anything.

Even something innocuous as an errant text message.

Last Thursday night, the king of Sydney FM radio received an angry text message that clearly wasn’t meant for him.

He didn’t recognise the number and it didn’t come up in his contact list.  It was random, but what are the chances it would end up in his inbox?

Here’s what it said:

“You need to start paying what you owe or I will get child support to put a no departure on you this is all you own doing you were such a good kid then you turned rotten just pay what your suppose to [sic]”.

Of course, Kyle read the text on air the next morning before he and Jackie decided to call the number and find out exactly what was going on.

It turns out the number was recognised as a listener called ‘Susan’ who’d called the KIIS 1065 breakfast show before.

What followed was a pretty amazing bit of radio. Watch below:

Hats off to Kyle and Jackie O and the team around them, who went for it and created some memorable radio.

Although, Kyle might want to change his number now.

This is such good radio,I can hear the haters already yelling it’s staged how did she have Kyle”s mobile number? Blah, Blah.
The best thing about this break for mine is the brilliance of how Kyle is showing his soft sympathetic side and getting SCA to cough up the bucks, not him AND right at the end he snaps straight back to controversial Kyle with that great line, “Keep my number for when you get Toey” Genius, Howard Stern would be proud.

That's why they rate

Great comment Dave Smith, however, just to correct you, it’s ARN coughing up the cash, and happy to do so.
