Kyle answers question of when he and Jackie O will start in Melbourne

Reporter

Melburnians now have a more solid timeline on when they might expect to hear Kyle & Jackie O on the airwaves.

Byron Cooke – who’s currently holding down the KIIS 101.1 Breakfast shift – this week asked Kyle Sandilands straight out when he and Jackie O would be officially starting their show in Melbourne.

Sandilands replied: “I haven’t chosen the date. This is the dilemma. A lot of people keep asking ‘When is this thing starting?’ A lot of people thought it’d already be on.”

“It was never going to be on now. I told the management of the network ‘When you move us into the new studios … because we’re moving into the buildings in about four weeks and it’s going to be state of the art, the greatest radio studio ever built …”

Discussing what new listeners to the show might expect, Cooke highlighted the duo’s community work, which Sandilands appreciated.

“We also do nice things. We have a laugh,” said Sandilands. We do a very different show.”

“Whatever you can currently hear in Melbourne, they’re all fine, there’s nothing wrong with these broadcasters – it’s a great industry, the radio industry.”

“But our show is very different, and it’s nothing like what you’ve really heard in Breakfast radio before.”

I reckon Kyle & Jackie will do well in Melb. It just may take longer than hoped.

They will most likely top the ratings in Melbourne by the end of the year. Kyle is right – their show is unique in the market.

I do question the value of adding Cooper Johns this year though. I’ve heard him on air now and he doesn’t add anything entertaining to the show, however the Johns name is huge in Sydney obviously and he brings a potentially younger audience with him. But here’s the key – even though he did play for Melbourne Storm once, the Melbourne audience don’t care about Rugby League, only AFL.

Who cares when they will air in Melbourne? I don’t even listen to them in Sydney. Totally overrated and irrelevant.
