Jimmy Smith steps away from 2Day FM to focus on mental health
Jimmy Smith (main image left, with co-hosts Emma Chow and Nathan Roye) is stepping away from 2Day FM Sydney breakfast to focus on his mental health.
He said:
“This has been one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever had to make. Taking this week off made me realise just how much I’ve been struggling with my mental health. I’m not okay right now, and I need to step back and focus on getting well.
Working with Nath, Emma and the entire team has meant so much to me. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built together, and I wish them nothing but success.”
Jimmy has openly talked about his mental health struggles before.
Jimmy and Nath had taken their show to No 1 in Hobart before a move to Hit Network nights, then to breakfast on 2Day with the departure of Hughesy, Ed and Erin mid 2024. Joined by Emma at the start of this year, the trio have struggled with their new youth format in the ratings.
Amanda Lee, Head of Hit Metro Content, said:
“Jimmy Smith has made the difficult decision to step away from the Jimmy & Nath with Emma Breakfast Show on Sydney’s 2DayFM for personal reasons.
Nath and Emma will continue to host 2DayFM Breakfast for the remainder of 2025.
We respect Jimmy’s choice and thank him for his contribution to SCA.”
Does feel like there’s more to this. All of the social pages are gone.
If this was his decision, strange that a decision has also been made to delete all traces of him across socials, podcasts, everything

Two of them sound so much better… Just listening on Monday morning.
Wishing Jim all of the best! Hoping his mental health will get back on track! I wonder the rest of the year will be a trail run for Emma and nath to see how they go with being a duo. Or will they bring back Mike e and bring back the Mike E and Emma show again.

I wish Mike E would join Emma but I think it will be replaced by Yaz & Feras targeting more Western Sydney audience…
There is definitely a much bigger story here.
While I obviously wish Jimmy Smith the best with his mental health, one still can’t help but wonder if it was a matter of when rather than if there’d be yet another cast change on 2DayFM breakfast given the dismal ratings they’ve had for most of this year.
Despite a fair bit of outdoor advertising for Jimmy & Nath with Emma (which I’d assume will start to disappear soon if it hasn’t already…), 2DayFM breakfast was only 0.4% ahead of the virtually no budget and interstate-presented 2UE brekky show during Survey #7!
And with the station overall now at the same level of ratings as 2UE (3.7%), you’d think 2DayFM’s “Hits Before They Hit/Today AF” format is unlikely to survive into 2026!
@Hkn: Yaz & Feras would definitely have to be among potential candidates for a future 2DayFM brekky show, but I also wouldn’t completely rule out the possibility of Nic Kelly and Loren Barry (“The Hot Hits”) doing 104.1 brekky in 2026.
The time to promote Mike E & Emma to 2DayFM breakfast has since passed, unfortunately.
Mike E is still working on air for Hiit.
His doing weekdays on B105 in Brisbane.
So I guess it’s still possible to get the Mike E & Emma show back together being they are both still employed there.
Hopefully it happens
Definitely feels like there’s something more happening here.
