“I wanted to go out on a high.” i98FM legend Marty Haynes steps back from Breakfast radio
After more than two decades of waking up the Illawarra, i98FM Breakfast Host Marty Haynes is taking a well-deserved break from Breakfast radio in 2025.
Haynes will remain a much loved part of the WIN/i98FM family and will continue to be a driving force of the annual i98FM Illawarra Convoy.
Haynes has been a cornerstone of the Illawarra community, sharing laughter, stories, local insights, and unwavering support.
He started his radio journey in Canberra at FM 104.7 before making the move to the Illawarra, where he has hosted the i98FM Breakfast Show since 2002.
His passion for the region has shone through his dedication to the i98FM Illawarra Convoy, which has so far raised over $27 million for local families facing life -threatening illnesses and various community charities through the Illawarra Community Foundation.
In 2014, Marty was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for his tireless charitable work.
“It’s been an incredible journey,” says Haynes. “I knew it was time, and I wanted to go out on a high. I’ve had the privilege of waking up with the Illawarra for so many years and am incredibly grateful for the support and mates I’ve made along the way.”
“I’ll always cherish the memories and experiences I’ve had at i98FM but am really looking forward to sleeping in.”
“Marty is a true legend of i98FM and a beloved figure in the Illawarra,” says i98FM Station Manager, Tia Davis. “His contributions to the station and the community are immeasurable. You cannot walk down the street with Marty and not have someone stop him to say hello. He is our humble star and a real gentleman in our industry, who has much to be proud of. We wish him all the best as he takes some time to recharge.”
i98FM will be celebrating Marty Haynes’ remarkable career throughout this week with his final show happening this Friday, December 20.
The station will announce its 2025 line-up soon.
