Hit106.9 to host Newcastle’s biggest drag show in support of marriage equality

Hit106.9 Newcastle’s breakfast show Nick and Sophie with Simon Baggs are throwing their support behind the local LGBTIQ community by hosting Newcastle’s biggest drag show.

In a bid to keep marriage equality top of mind while the surveys are being posted out, the event will be held at Lizotte’s tonight from 6.30pm, and will feature Sophie and Simon performing a drag number each, and other local acts including the team from mPole, East Coast All Star Cheerleaders, Catherine Britt, and Wayne Rogers.

“When Nick, Sophie and Simon came to me saying they wanted to do a massive drag show to support our LGBTIQ community here in Newcastle how could I say no?” Content Director for Hit106.9 Mike Byrne said.

“Not only has it been a chance to shine a light on equality, I for one can’t wait to see Nick and Simon all frocked up… I do hope they shave their legs!”

The show has already garnered huge backing from opposition leader Bill Shorten, who called into the show this morning to congratulate them on a sellout and expressed his support for the campaign.

“It’s not fair that some Australians don’t have the same right as others,” he told the breakfast team.

Hosted by Nick Gill (aka Nicky Menage a Trois), the night will also feature entertainment including Booty and the Beat: Director’s Cut with Dianne Slowly, Gloria Sass, Amanda Pokar and Marzipan Mayflower – the hilarious retelling of everybody’s favourite Disney classics featuring four of the very best of the Newcastle’s Drag Scene.

Newcastle’s Biggest Drag Show is proudly supporting beyondblue, and attendees are encouraged to give a $10 donation at the door.
