Here’s cheers for 102.9 Triple M in Survey 1 for Newcastle
102.9 Triple M has increased its overall lead in GfK Survey 1 of the year for Newcastle – the local SCA station up 3.2% to 24.2 share, still comfortably clear of its sister station Hit 106.9.
Triple M’s Tanya and Steve extended their lead as Newy’s #1 Breakfast team – up 3.3% to 25.4 share and picking up 8,000 listeners – ahead of Hit’s Jess Farchione and Rohan Edwards (+0.8% to 15.7) with the soon-to-be wrapping up triple j duo of Concetta Caristo and Luka Muller enjoying a 1.4% share gain, nudging out NEW FM’s Nic Somerville and Joel Gosper to snare third in the early timeslot
Triple M Newy posted healthy share gains across all shifts.
ABC Newcastle held steady in Breakfast but saw share drops across Mornings, Afternoons and Drive.

SCA Head of Regional Content Blair Woodcock said:
“The numbers speak for themselves in today’s Newcastle survey results, as SCA reaches 55% more People 25-54 than our nearest commercial competitor network and 102.9 Triple M continues its extraordinary run with a record-breaking result.“
“Headlined by powerhouse Breakfast show Tanya & Steve, Triple M has delivered its highest-ever Breakfast share and continued to dominate across the day as Newcastle’s Number 1 station (24.2 share). Tanya & Steve secured their 38th consecutive survey win and climbed to a 25.4 share (up 3.3 points) – the highest Breakfast share ever recorded in Newcastle radio survey. Frankly, there aren’t enough superlatives to accurately describe how impressive this show’s results are, a testament to the live and local work of the team.“
“From Breakfast through to Drive, Triple M continues to deliver record-setting audience numbers in Newcastle. The Rush Hour with Maroon, Millie & Hindy also posted a huge result, maintaining their position as the Number 1 Drive show, climbing to a 21.6 share, and reinforcing the strength of our line-up.“
“It’s also fantastic to see HIT106.9 continue to strengthen its position as Newcastle’s Number 2 station, with Jess & Rohan delivering a strong first survey together in Breakfast. The new brekky duo hit the ground running, increasing their audience to 105,000 listeners (up 3,000) and achieving a healthy share increase to 15.7 (up 0.8).“
“We throw ‘dominate’ around a lot in radio, and this is the textbook definition of a dominant result. To have both the Number 1 and Number 2 stations in market, reach more than half the Newcastle P25-54 market each week, and deliver this level of growth across both brands is an incredible achievement. Huge congratulations to our Newy teams.”
