Harrowing interview with Jelena Dokic on Ant Middleton’s Head Game podcast

Reporter

Former Australian tennis player Jelena Dokic joins Ant Middleton’s Head Game podcast this week, in a harrowing interview.

At the age of just sixteen, Jelena pulled off a career-defining victory against then-world No. 1 Martina Hingis.

At a time where her sporting career was on an incredible trajectory, behind closed doors she was facing the toughest challenge of her life.

Jelena opens up to Ant about overcoming adversity, poverty and violence to rise to the top.

“I learned so much about myself through all of those ups and downs. I want people to know that the journey to finding yourself into healing is not all up, up up. It never is in life or anything.”

“[After sport] I was hiding, couldn’t even get out of the house to try something … I had no voice. I was silenced. I had nothing. I never said anything in the media. I never said anything to anyone. And I didn’t quite know it at the time, but writing my first book Unbreakable, that was it. That was the turning point. Because I was finally telling my story, sharing my story, finding my voice.”
