Happy to be back: Wilko & Courts talk about taking on Hit 104.7 Breakfast

Reporter

After two years away from the Canberra airwaves, Neil ‘Wilko’ Wilcock and Courtenay ‘Courts’ Kneen are now almost two weeks into their new roles as hosts of Hit 104.7’s Breakfast show.

Having previously presented the station’s Drive shift together, they’re close mates, which perhaps makes their on-air banter a little unconventional at times.

In an interview with the Canberra Times (subscription required), Wilcock says “We don’t like saying nice stuff to each other, that is not how our relationship is built.”

The pair’s return to radio follows the surprise axing of previous Breakfast hosts Ned Breward and Josh Torney, who’ve since gone on to launch Canberra’s first daily podcast show.

Kneen told the paper she’s excited to get another crack at radio.

Wilcock says conversations started happening and the idea of returning to do Breakfast radio grew from there.

“At the end of the day, the reason they put the trust in us to do the job was because they liked product we were doing on Drive and they were happy with that product to then be on Breakfast.”
