Hamish and Andy to release weekly podcasts for SCA in 2018 & 2019
Hamish & Andy may have departed their Hit Network Drive slot of 11 years, but they won’t be leaving Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) entirely next year.
They’re set to release a series of original podcasts for SCA, through its own podcast platform PodcastOne, across 2018 and 2019.
Head of PodcastOne Grant Tothill made the announcement today: “Hamish and Andy’s millions of fans won’t miss them – they can still hear Hamish & Andy weekly with their new original podcasts.
“They will produce two series of 40 podcasts in 2018 and 2019, which will be released first on PodcastOne and then on iTunes.”
Since Hamish & Andy‘s radio show began being released in podcast form, it has already had a quarter of a billion downloads, including 28 million in 2017.
“The boys are a great addition to the PodcastOne family and I’m so pleased that although they may not be on radio for the moment, they’re not leaving SCA,” continued Tothill.
“PodcastOne listeners are going to love their new shows. And this will be an opportunity for their fans to discover more podcasts from the wide range of podcasts on the PodcastOne network.”
“Previously the podcast has been the radio show, now it is a show purely made for the podcasting format,” said Andy. “I mean, it’s going to sound pretty similar, it’s our voices, but it’s cool to be playing 100% in the podcasting world.”
“I’m going to have to teach my grandma how to podcast, so the move does not come without its hurdles, but the excitement outweighs the challenges! We can’t wait”, added Hamish.
“We also can say things in unison”, they said together.
With their last SCA radio deal reportedly worth $4 million, industry sources have estimated the worth of the new podcast deal at between $1 to 2 million.
