Google has launched an inbuilt podcast player, available on every Android Phone with Google Play enabled.

The introduction of Google Podcasts makes podcasts easily accessible for the 80% of smartphone users who own Android phones – which is easily the most popular mobile OS worldwide.

It also marks the introduction of a direct competition to Apple’s Podcasts app and the new app comes with some similar features including recommended listening.

Google Podcasts also allow for customisable listening experience with offline listening and features including faster playback speeds and skipping over silences.

With the rollout has come a ‘play’ button in Google web search allowing users to search the web for podcasts.

Listening is also synced across all devices with your Google account set-up, allowing pausing on one device and picking up from the same spot on another.

Google Podcasts are completely separate to Google Play Music Podcasts (available in the US and Canada), however, the new app is available from the app store.

It’s also pretty simple to get your podcasts listed on Google Podcasts, simply link your RSS feed from your website and link your website from your RSS feed.
