Goodbye Ballarat. Hello Sydney. New 2GB role for Brooke Sheehan

Reporter

In the last few weeks, Brooke Sheehan’s feet have barely touched the ground.

The AFTRS graduate and former Workday Announcer at Ballarat’s Power FM has returned to her old stomping ground of Sydney and is soaking up every second of her new role as a panel op at 2GB.

An excited Brooke tells Radio Today “It’s funny where things end up going when you put yourself out there to attract new challenges.”

“This role has by far been the most challenging in my career and now my foot’s in the door, the world truly is my oyster.”

Brooke says she’s the kind of person who makes a plan and then goes after what she wants – but she encountered plenty of roadblocks along the way.

“50 doors slammed shut before one would open to bring me to where I am today.”

“I honestly didn’t expect to be picked up for the ‘big city gig’ for a couple of years yet but when that opportunity presented itself, I jumped at it.”

Brooke likens her new gig to flying a plane.

“I have a huge responsibility to my presenters and I’m truly grateful I get to work with some of the best producers and presenters in our industry.”

“Working at 2GB gives me purpose, the hustle of the breaking news cycle, listening to the Aussie stories that touch our hearts daily, we’re the voice of the Australian people and there’s never a dull moment, that’s for sure.”

Brooke says it’s been wild ride so far, working alongside the likes of John Stanley, Deb Knight and Chris O’Keefe.

“A massive shout out to my mentor and the lord of the lords panel op Declan Helmore. The talent that seeps from these walls is infectious and I couldn’t be happier venturing down this career path than I am right now.”

“I’m exactly where I’m meant to be and that is a satisfying feeling.”

Brooke says being back in Sydney with her fiancée Ben and dog-child Xena is the icing on the cake.

“I start my mornings with a 6am sweat sesh at Sweat1000 and hit up an icy cold ocean swim at my local Coogee beach.”

“In this role it’s important to take extra care of your health as I need to be on top of my game for work.”

Brooke’s goal this year is to work alongside Ben Fordham.

“It seems only a stone’s throw away. When you’re turning his mic on and off, you know you’ve arrived.”

Of being part of the Nine Network, Brooke says she knows she’s working for the right team.

“I love working for an organisation that supports the progression of other people looking to get into our industry.”

Leaving 3BA and Power Ballarat is probably the best decision she could ever make. A bit of a revolving door that place, more than other stations.
