Geyer shocked by Moonman leaving Triple M

Mark Geyer has spoken about his shock at Lawrence ‘Moonman’ Mooney leaving Triple M shortly before he was due to join him in the breakfast slot.

Lawrence Mooney abruptly left Triple M with more than a year left on his contract and headed straight for his lawyer’s office.

The timing of the exit was close to Mark Geyer’s return to the team, as he was set to go to air with Mooney in 2022.

Rumours have been circulating to suggest that Mooney was unhappy with the signing of Geyer to the show.

In a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, Mark Geyer spoke about the shock resignation of Lawrence Mooney, saying that he was looking forward to working with the Moonman.

“It was a shock to me. I was looking forward to working with Loz and that was the idea originally pitched to me,” said Geyer.

“We could have worked together for sure. There’s no doubt about it. I was excited about it.”

“I honestly don’t know what’s happened apart from the fact lawyers are now involved. I’m the deer in the spotlight.”

There had been reports of Mooney falling out with other staff as they worked to increase ratings, but the exact why surrounding the shock departure remains a mystery.

Entertainment reporter, Peter Ford, told Seven’s The Morning show, that an internal issue had led to the Moonman’s departure.

“My information – which is very well-placed – says to me that it was an internal, off-air workplace issue that has led to this disappearance,” said Peter.

“What will happen in terms of money will be interesting, because he has another year to run on his contract and I don’t imagine [SCA] will just pay it out as simply as that.”

The planned revival of the Triple M breakfast show in 2022 with MG has a large focus on Rugby League.

“They wanted someone to bring a bit of sport content and news and views from western Sydney and the NRL and I fit that bill,” said Geyer.

well I’m sad and will miss Moonie’s characters – laughed all the way to work!
Even put up with all the ads and endless footy talk …
Now I hear Molloy’s leaving so there’s no reason to listen to the MMMs any more for me. Music wise I’ve had well and truly enough of Bon bloody Jovie and the Fooies.
