Gen Z find most new podcasts via Youtube: Edison Research

New research by Edison Research and SXM Media has provided some fresh insight into the podcast listening habits of Gen Z consumers between the ages of 13-24 this week, showing Youtube is the largest peddler of new podcast content for Gen Zs in the US.

With over 1000 people participating in the April survey, the research revealed there has been a 45% increase in podcast listenership in the Gen Z bracket, and that 75% of Gen Z monthly podcast listeners have listened to a podcast in the last week.

Most interestingly, Youtube was found to be the largest peddler of new podcast content for Gen Zs, followed by TikTok and Instagram. As a result, 84% of Gen Z monthly podcast listeners have watched podcasts with a video component.

Not so shockingly, most Gen Z listeners were introduced to podcasting for the first time via social media, with the most popular categories being Comedy, Entertainment and True Crime.

Mental health and wellbeing were compared, with 83% saying they listened to or watched podcasts to relax, 65% to escape and 56% to help understand how they’re feeling about something.
