Gabi & Dan’s ultimate public transport adventure

ACE Radio’s network breakfast show, The Morning Crew with Gabi & Dan, is putting the Victorian Government’s $9.20 daily capped V/Line fares to the test.

Gabi and Dan are embarking on the longest journey possible within the state … Mildura to Mallacoota.

Dan is an infrastructure and transit enthusiast, known to ride buses for fun. And Gabi? She can’t remember the last time she caught public transport.

Before V/Line daily capped fares were introduced on March 31st, an adult fare from Mildura to Mallacoota would cost around $120.

Now that regional and metropolitan fares are in line at $9.20 per day, the trip should cost less than one cent per kilometre.

Public transport aficionado Dan believes “Since the $9.20 fares have been introduced, it just makes sense to me to attempt the longest V/Line journey there is! We are a modern-day Burke and Wills.”

Gabi & Dan’s epic journey will begin at 10pm on Wednesday May 3rd in Mildura, with a 7-hour coach to Ballarat. At 6am, around half an hour into their train trip from Ballarat to Southern Cross Station, Gabi & Dan will begin their radio show, likely to the confusion of commuters! They’ll keep listeners informed of their antics until 9am, when they should be passing through Drouin still with 6 hours and 45 minutes of their journey to go.

All things going to plan, they’ll arrive at 3:45pm on Thursday May 4th in Mallacoota.

The full adventure will take 17 hours and 40 minutes … and then Gabi & Dan have to travel home again!

As the realist of the pair, Gabi says “I’m all for a bargain, but surely just telling people this trip is possible for $9.20 is enough?! Besides, I don’t think I’ve ever spent this long solely with Dan. 3 hours on air each day with him is plenty!”
