Firebomb: ABC investigates unknown Perth terrorism campaign

The ABC has released a new podcast detailing a terrorist firebombing campaign on home soil that most of us have never heard about.

Firebomb explores a number of attacks targeting Perth’s Chinese community in 1988 as Australia marked its Bicentenary.

In the personal series, actor Crispian Chan investigates what happened when his family’s Chinese restaurant was one of the targets of the firebombings.

Throughout the series, buried weapons, secret informers, and political manoeuvres reveal the ugly underbelly of white supremacy and neo-Nazism that lurked in the community.

Crispian teams up with ABC reporter Alex Mann for the seven-part series as they cross the country to find answers.

The investigation asks how could this happen and if this could happen in the country again.

Episode one of Firebomb is out now and available on the ABC Listen app.

This is such a great podcast. It’s compelling and keeps you listening.

It was also a bit of an eye opener for me, around the extreme racism of recent living history that ultimates resulted in domestic terrorism. It really made me more aware of the extremities of the racism issue in Australia. The story is well told, from a place of vulnerability – well done to Crispian, Alex and all involved
