Em Rusciano sends message to her past self from the new studio

Former 2DayFM breakfast host Em Rusciano has addressed a post on Instagram to her 2017/18 self as she moves into her new production office for the Emsolation podcast.

In the post, Em details her road to recovery after dealing with the stress of breakfast radio she describes as, “soul destroying” and the scars she bears as a result.

“Hey 2017/18 Em, guess what?! We moved into our own production office today! Babes, after A LOT of therapy (you have some severe ptsd to work through) I want you to know that you do recover from that scorched earth, soul destroying, brought you down to your knees, breakfast radio ckusterf*ck,” she wrote.

“You are now making a hugely successful show, on your own terms, with your best mate, and a team of legends backing you. Today was a good day. No! Today was a GREAT day.”

Em started the Emsolation podcast in April 2020, after leaving her breakfast role in 2018 to focus on her family and pregnancy.

Announcing her 2018 departure on air, Em stated she was relieved to leave on her own terms and give away the stress attached to the job.

“This job requires someone who is on all the time,” said Em.

“The last time I attempted breakfast radio and pregnancy it ended up with me in the psych ward, so we didn’t want to go through that again.”

The now 42 year-old later said that she was constantly at odds with SCA’s executives and that radio had changed her and created someone she didn’t want to be, due to the workloads and competitive nature of the job.

“The entire executive board of 40-plus men trying to tell me how to be a relatable woman – I had a lot of issues with that,” Em said on the Game Changers podcast last year.

“I was so unhappy and tortured. And radio does that to people like me. You overanalyse everything. You get given too much feedback, I would argue, and I did come out of it very bitter and twisted about holding a microphone in front of me and speaking.”

Since leave 2DayFM and starting the Emsolation podcast, things have been on the up for Em who appears to have reached the light at the end of the tunnel, further expanding her work with the new office after being approached by Spotify last year to sign an exclusive deal.

Em Rusciano was not a successful broadcaster because she didn’t want to listen to anyone and her ratings were dreadful

Her Head of Network was a woman, her producers were women. Who are these entire male executive board telling her what to say?
