Ellie Angel-Mobbs opens up about trying to be the best female music announcer in Australia

2DayFM stalwart Ellie Angel-Mobbs has opened up about her radio journey and her drive to become the best female music announcer in the country.

She admitted that whilst at times it’s tempting for many women in radio to want to be the ‘next Jackie ‘O’ Henderson’, she decided her talent was in nailing music announcing.

Angel-Mobbs spoke with Kate Meade on her Women of Influence podcast, and cited Bianca Dye and Kate Mac as other women who have forged their own successful path in radio without trying to mimic someone who’s already made it.

Meade noted Angel-Mobbs’ unique skillset and the advice she had imparted earlier in her career.

“Being on the radio is an art form, it’s something that you have to practice every single day and it takes a skill and natural talent to be able to say what you need to say in 30 seconds… That is a super skill,” Meade said, recalling Angel-Mobbs’ advice.

Angel-Mobbs said her job announcing Weekday Mornings on 2DayFM was “the best job on Earth”, only made better by the opportunity to work alongside her husband, former Triple M content director and current fellow 2DayFM announcer, Jamie Angel.

“I love [working alongside him]… We are so similar, yet so different and the way that our creative minds work, we just work so well together… My mind never stops thinking, constantly coming up with these ideas… Jamie’s like the executor… and he’ll make it happen,” she said.

She said working alongside her husband, who she dubbed the best music announcer in the country, had “reignited a fire in my heart and passion to be the best female announcer in Australia”.

“We’re very competitive as to who can do a better talk break on air,” she joked, saying the two spur each other on.

Angel-Mobbs also delved into her fertility struggles, health battles and endometriosis diagnosis, as well as coming to terms with, and embracing, the hand she has been dealt.
