Darling Downs Dust – The Rub the Darling Downs built

Triple M Darling Downs is bringing a little spice to the lives of the community this week with their new Darling Downs Dust… and it’s not the layer off your boots and windscreen.

Breakfast host Lee Faulkner has created a new seasoning for the Meatstock barbeque festival in Toowoomba this weekend and it’s all thanks to the suggestions of listeners.

To create the Darling Downs Dust, Lee asked listeners to vote on their favourite flavour mix before setting the wheels in motion to make it happen in collaboration with Darlingfresh Smokehaus.

“Meatstock is the famed music and barbecue festival that features two days of live music, barbecue and grilling competitions, low and slow BBQ, butcher wars, demonstrations, a barbecue expo and PBR,” said Lee.

“It’s the second year the event has come to Toowoomba, and the second year 864 Triple M has been on board – because… it’s music and BBQ!” said Lee.

“This year, we decided to do something really special, and have teamed up with Darlingfresh Smokehaus to create a low and slow BBQ RUB – or as we call it, The Rub that Darling Downs Built!”

Lee said the phones didn’t stop ringing with listeners who wanted to contribute to by adding their flavours to the mix to be part of Triple M barbeque history.

Listeners voted on everything involved, from the flavour profile to the name, even the taste testing.

“The resulting crowd-sourced rub is called DARLING DOWNS DUST (brilliant!) and is a mild rub, with hints of paprika, garlic, oregano and cocoa. We also then called in local chocolate makers Metiisto, who have provided roasted cocoa nibs for the final product,” said Lee.

“Yes it is incredible on meat, and yes, it will be featured this weekend, and yes a limited amount will be available for sale to take home, and yes, can someone please alert Masterchef because the Darling Downs has just created a Rub for the ages!”

Director of Darlingfresh Smokehaus Jeff Schultheiss said he was excited to be a part of something so local and flavoursome!

“What we have come up is truly sensational; a Rub that we can all be proud of! It represents the flavours of the Darling Downs region, with the addition of roasted cocoa nibs from our wonderful Metiisto Chocolate makers. See you at Meatstock, and bring your appetites,” said Schultheiss.

The Meatstock Festival will visit Melbourne, Sydney, Toowoomba and Auckland in New Zealand.

The Toowoomba showgrounds will come alive for two days of Meatstock this Friday and Saturday, April 14 and 15.

The once great station known as 4GR now only has one local shift, breakfast and that’s it.

Toowoomba deserves far better.
