Coodabeen Champions switches from ABC Radio to ACE Radio’s 3MP
AFL radio show Coodabeen Champions will have a new home in 2022, with the group ditching the ABC for ACE Radio’s 3MP.
The show has been on-air since 1981, when it kicked off on community station 3RRR., but has been with the ABC for the past 27 years.
The new show will start in March 2022 on Melbourne’s 3MP and be syndicated across ACE’s network of stations throughout regional Victoria. It will run from 4pm to 6pm on Fridays, as well as being available on the app and as a podcast.
Team member Ian Cover said they’re enthused by the prospect of broadcasting to listeners across the network’s 10 stations.
“ACE offers the best of all worlds – 3MP is a growing Melbourne radio brand, they have a strong heritage in communities throughout regional Victoria and a suite of platforms which allow us to connect with listeners everywhere,” he said.
“We’ll be taking the show on the road at times, broadcasting from local footy grounds, sampling the canteens and meeting the people of our great state.”
Mark Taylor, 3MP general manager and ACE Radio CEO, said the Coodabeens’ brand and humour will be a great fit for the station.
“The Coodabeens are a household name, not only in Melbourne but right across the state,” he said.
“We’re very excited about them presenting their show on Friday afternoons when people are winding down from work and gearing up for the footy.”
The show consists of Cover as well as Jeff Richardson, Simon Whelan, Greg Champion, Billy Baxter, Andy Bellaira and ‘Torch’ McGee.
