Chris Bath and Charlie Pickering join ABC Radio Sydney for 2025

Reporter

Chris Bath and Charlie Pickering will be an integral part of the ABC Radio Sydney line-up in 2025.

Bath is set to take over as Drive presenter in the new year, while Pickering will present Thank God It’s Friday!

Bath has periodically filled in for long-term Drive incumbent Richard Glover, who is departing the role after 26 years. She says she is feeling “excited, daunted and a little bit scared and nervous” about taking over as the Drive presenter.

“I’m still in a bit of disbelief. I always thought that Richard was going to be there forever.”

“Every time I sit in that chair, I have a pretty healthy dose of imposter syndrome because I don’t know how anyone could be as good a broadcaster as Richard Glover.”

As we heard yesterday, Sarah MacDonald will not be returning to ABC Radio Sydney Mornings in 2025.

In Melbourne, Brigitte Duclos will host Afternoons, allowing Trevor Chappell to return to his role as Overnights presenter in 2025. She will start in December.

Last week, it was announced that Bob Murphy and Sharnelle Vella would replace Sammy J on Breakfast.

Jacinta Parsons and Brian Nankervis will now host Saturday mornings. Alice Zaslavsky on Saturdays will leave for family reasons, as will Matt Preston.

In Perth, Gary Adshead is confirmed to be hosting Drive when he departs 6PR.

Jo Trilling moves to Afternoons and Afternoons host Michael Tetlow returns to the ABC News Channel to present the evening and late national TV bulletins.

In Brisbane, Ellen Fanning will return to radio and the ABC to host Drive, one of the only two live and local drive shows in that market. Kelly Higgins-Devine returns to Evenings, meaning Rebecca Levingston will finish at the end of the year.

In Adelaide, Spence Denny will return to host Evenings. Jason Chong then moves to present Sunday mornings between 10am and 12pm.

Current Afternoons and Drive presenters Nikolai Beilharz and Jo Laverty will switch places. Then move will see Laverty start earlier, with Country Hour dropped (but still available via the ABC Listen app) and Drive now running from 3 – 6pm.

Elsewhere, triple j will take Like A Version overseas, with a special run of performances recorded in other countries.

For ABC Radio National, alongside Sally Sara already announced to replace Patricia Karvelas on Breakfast, Fran Kelly returns to host a new daily 6pm program The Radio National Hour. Andy Park departs his RN Drive program for Sally Sara’s vacant seat, hosting The World Today.

Another reason why we should consider privatising the ABC and because so many of their on air presenters come from commercial television.

So sad that Sarah Mac is no longer wanted on 702

This is actually surprising. I can’t stand anything the abc produces any more but I may come back after reading this. Bathy and Dukkas are great choices

Beyond sad that the ABC has chosen not to renew Sarah McDonalds contract in 2025
IMHO Sarah was doing such a fabulous job hosting mornings and her wit, intelligence, empathy and warmth were all there – particularly with her insightful interviewing technique – she had terrific ratings and was such a pleasure to listen to
I’m not sure what I will be listening to now in 2025
Please ABC reconsider this ridiculous decision you have made, swallow your pride and reinstall this wonderful radio journalist & presenter

Quote PJ: “Another reason why we should consider privatising the ABC and because so many of their on air presenters come from commercial television.”

Yeah… and let’s turn commercial radio / TV into Government-run when they have on air presenters come from ABC.

Well the conservatives have won. Look forward to a reduction in smart, articulate women and any males who try to broaden our understanding of our diverse country.

Very, very sad to read that Sarah MacDonald it not returning to mornings. If this is a board decision, it’s a terrible one. she’s a lovely, warm and friendly voice on the radio, as well as being interesting and able to take on the tough subjects. I don’t understand this decision at all!
