Charlie Pickering: “3 o’clock starts are completely normal for me”
While many of us find the radio Breakfast shift a struggle, that’s not the case for Charlie Pickering.
The host of Friday Breakfast on ABC Radio Melbourne doesn’t mind the early starts.
Speaking on the latest You Don’t Know Me with Virginia Trioli podcast, Pickering reveals that brekky hours suit his body clock:
“It is fine. I have a three year old who, for the first 2 and a half years of his life, refused to sleep through the night.”
“Everyone has said ‘How do you go getting up early?’ And I’m like, a 3 o’clock start is completely normal for me.”
Pickering grew up listening to 774, describing it as ‘the sound of Melbourne.’
Like others before him, he started out as a lawyer before joining the comedy circuit, at one stage making $150 a week doing stand-up.
Though Pickering stresses he was never a ‘proper’ lawyer as such.
He did articles (a law internship) for one week – and says that was enough.
“I had moment of clarity where I realised ‘This is never going to make me happy.’”
