Car vs Plane: Zach & Dom’s race to Toowoomba

On the KIIS 97.3 fill-in breakfast show, Zach & Dom put Brisbane transport options to the test over the Easter long weekend, finding out if a plane or car will reach Toowoomba faster from Brisbane.

Considering the drive from Brisbane to Toowoomba is only an hour and a half, late-night duo, Zach Mander and Dom Fay were wondering whether the flight was worth it.

“Heading up the range to Toowoomba is an Easter long weekend tradition for many Brisbane families,” Zach & Dom said.

“We’ve been doing the road trip on the Warrego Highway for years, with no idea that flying was an available option.”

Rex Airlines operates flight ZL 5631, which departs from Brisbane Airport twice weekly and touches down at Wellcamp Airport twenty-nine minutes later.

To put their minds at ease and find out which transport option is faster, Zach & Dom raced producer Mady Fuller as she took what could be one of Australia’s shortest commercial flight legs while the boys drove up the range.

“The flight was bizarre. We hit our flying altitude about ten minutes in, and then started our descent straight away,” producer Mady said

“Despite the short nature of the flight, I still got an in-flight snack of a packet of chips – so I was happy with that.”
