Canberra Survey: FM downturn paves the way for AM dominance

Staff Writer

ABC Canberra is the new #1 station in the nation’s capital climbing +3.3% overall to usurp MIX 106.3 at the top.

It was a strong book for talk formats with both 2CC and ABC posting strong gains. There was an unprecedented swing among the 25-39 demographic from hit 104.7 to ABC. Hit fell -9.5% in the demographic with ABC picking up the pieces with a +6.1% jump.

The FM stations took at hit losing ground at both breakfast and drive. With drops for Hit 104.7’s Ryan & Tanya and MIX’s Kristen & Wilko at breakfast, the AM stations increased their overall lead in the slot.

Hamish & Andy are still the clear #1 at drive with the session remaining fairly steady overall.

Two commercial FM stations – one is called “hit” and the other is called “mix”. FM radio is becoming so bland. Snore.
