California to the G: Armchair Experts podcast explores NFL’s landmark journey to Melbourne

As Melbourne counts down to the NFL‘s long-awaited arrival at the MCG on Friday, September 11th, the Armchair Experts podcast is introducing a brand-new miniseries, uncovering the story behind one of the biggest sporting events ever staged in Australia.

Launching this week with an interview featuring NFL Australia General Manager Charlotte Offord, Armchair Experts: California to the G takes listeners behind the scenes of the landmark match-up, exploring the years of planning, negotiations and ambition that brought the NFL’s first regular season game to Melbourne.

Hosted by sports broadcaster Cam Luke, the series features the key decision-makers, athletes and Australian NFL advocates who helped turn the historic event from a bold vision into reality.

Guests scheduled to appear throughout the series include Victorian Minister for Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos, Melbourne Cricket Club CEO Stuart Fox, New England Patriots wide receiver Mack Hollins and former AFL and NFL players Ben Graham and Arryn Siposs.

Host Cam Luke said “Like all Australian sports and NFL fans, the idea that we would see an NFL game in our backyard never seemed realistic to me. The fact that it’s happening and how it came about, is a story that needs to be told, and I am honoured to be at the forefront of telling it. I was there in New Orleans when it was announced and can’t wait to be at the MCG with the other 100,000 fans on September 11 for the game!”

Armchair Experts is a popular AFL podcast and digital football show hosted by 2008 Brownlow Medallist Adam Cooney and sports broadcaster Cameron (Cam) Luke.

Originally launching as a digital companion series for Channel 7, the show has evolved into a successful independent podcast known for its uniquely Australian take on AFL.

The launch of California to the G also marks the beginning of Armchair Experts’ NFL coverage with iHeart, with plans to release weekly NFL episodes alongside its AFL content throughout the season, culminating in dedicated Super Bowl coverage in February.
