Nova’s Browny stars in musical Four’N Twenty pie campaign

Nova 100 Breakfast co-host and former AFL star Jonathan ‘Browny’ Brown is one of many famous faces to appear in a new commercial for Four’N Twenty pies.

The ad screened during Sunday’s State of Origin clash and is a contender for Channel 9’s State of Originality competition, which is seeking to lift the quality of advertising in big TV moments. The ultimate aim is to have the ads surrounding big sporting moments, such as the State of Origin, capture people’s attention the same way the US’ Super Bowl does.

Channel 9 called on brands to put forward epic ads, with the final winner receiving $1 million worth of advertising inventory across Nine’s various assets and platforms, including Nine Radio.

The Four’N Twenty entry features Brown, alongside other personalities including AFLW star Talya Harris, former Wallaby George Gregan and Olympic Gold medallist Steven Bradbury.

The musical ad also riffs off the much-criticised AFL Grand Final performance from Meatloaf in 2011.

The ad was created by BWM Dentsu in Melbourne with media buying by iProspect.

Nine’s director of Powered, Liana Dubois, said this round of the State Of Originality competition had uncovered some great original thinking and brands had really played into the unique cultural moment created by State Of Origin.

“As we’ve said throughout this initiative, our goal in creating State of Originality is to drive new creativity and ensure the advertising on screen is as entertaining and engaging as the footy on the field,” she added.

The lyrics to the Four’N Twenty tune can be found below.

We’ve been there for every game
A Four’N Twenty pie
When Meatloaf overcooked it
And Gregan saved that try
When Browny takes one for the team
And Bradbury skated by
Its gold and crust pastry watched as Tayla kicked the sky
We’re there when Simmons makes a three
We give a big high-five
What future sport looks like
Just won’t be right without a pie
Oh, what a lovely pie we make
A Four’N Twenty pie
Oi!
