“Australian radio is the most cutthroat industry I’ve ever worked in”: Craig Low on Sit Down To Stand Up

Staff Writer

As part of the Sit Down To Stand Up podcast, host Jack Laurence catches up with Australian radio identity and former host of Lowie’s Hot 30 Countdown, Craig Low.

Low’s humble beginnings in the radio industry started when he was just a teenager and cultivated in a successful run as the host of his own national night show on Sydney’s 2Day FM.

I was 21 when it all ended. When other people’s careers were just getting started, mine ended. It was an unbelievable learning curb.”

Low speaks about how, prior to his abrupt and highly publicised firing from radio, he had his “head up his own ass”.

“I went from living in a great house, having a #1 night show and a famous girlfriend, to sleeping on my parents couch.”

According to Low, the Australian radio industry is one of the hardest he’s ever had to work in, comparing it with his new home in Los Angeles and the world of Hollywood.

“Australian radio is the most cutthroat industry that I’ve ever worked in and I literally work in American TV/film.”

Low now hosts his own syndicated show ‘Lowie Live’ on ARN’s iHeartRadio and is a regular on the stand-up comedy circuit in the United States.
