Amazing moment for 2UE’s Trevor Sinclair at Royal Easter Show
2UE Breakfast announcer Trevor Sinclair found himself on the receiving end of one of life’s amazing moments yesterday, whilst broadcasting from Sydney’s Royal Easter Show.
It was the kind of chance meeting that demonstrates the power of radio, and its connection to listeners.
Trevor was in 2UE’s 70s-themed Heritage Pavilion (which is fully decked out in retro gear, including a disco dancefloor) when a mother and daughter named Marcie and Wendy came over to say hello.
“They told me they’d been listening to me since 1978 when I was on 2SM and had followed me ever since.”
“Marcie suffered a stroke a while back. It was while I was on Breakfast at MIX.”
After the stroke, Marcie lost the ability to communicate.
Knowing how much Marcie enjoyed listening to Trevor on the airwaves, her family told him they would play her his shows from recorded cassettes to try to bring her back. And it worked.
“She was so thrilled to be able to come and say hello,” says Trevor.
“It’s the small things like this that remind me that in our position as broadcasters we often forget how much we touch people’s lives.”
“Never, ever take this job for granted.”
The power of radio’s strength is shown again.
Radio’s personal connection is indeed therapeutic.
No one better than Trevor Sinclair to affirm the power of radio. A superb broadcaster and individual.
Well done to Ace/2UE for investing in such a presence at the Royal Easter Show. In this era of cutbacks to marketing, this is a refreshing change.
Yes I remember Trevor on 2 SM and what happened to Peter Sinclair also at 2 SM?
Trevor was and is a very professional radio announcer
I also listened to him when he was on 2SM
Trevor Sinclair a true gentleman.
Thank you for publishing this, and the comments that have followed here, and in other forums. It was such a special moment and that sparkle in Marcie’s eyes when she spoke with me will never leave me.
Trevor is a true pro and one of the great survivors. This is an absolutely wonderful story and demonstrates how important radi0 is to so many people
