ACE Radio Network revives 3MP with easy listening format
3MP is back in Victoria, with new owners ACE Radio Network reviving the station in Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula.
The station will re-launch at 6pm tonight (Friday, July 3) on the 1377 AM frequency, with ACE declaring that it will concentrate on the Mornington Peninsula, the heartland of the station’s broadcast area.
3MP will have an “Easy Music” format, and the station will also be available on DAB+ all across Melbourne, as well as on iHeartRadio and CRA’s RadioApp.
ACE Radio Network acquired the license from SEN, who previously ran horse racing station SEN Track on the frequency. It now moves to 1593AM.
“Our staff have been working day and night to get the station ready and we are proud of the product they have created,” said ACE Radio CEO Mark Taylor.
“I have been listening to the test program for a week and can’t turn it off!”
3MP first launched in 1976 with the ‘MP’ call sign standing for Mornington Peninsula.
ACE Radio’s Emily Canning will be the first announcer, kicking things off at 6pm tonight and leading into the first weekend of broadcasting.
From next Monday, John Vertigan and Julie Strini will host The Easy Breakfast. The full new 3MP Weekday Lineup is as follows:
- 5.30 am – 9 am – The Easy Breakfast with Jon and Julie
- 9 am – 3 pm – Emily Canning
- 3 pm – 9 pm – Cathy Jubb
- 9 pm – 1 am – Dave Drinkell
- 1 am – 5.30 am – Easy music overnight
Is that the same John Vertigan who was on double and triple Jay all those years ago?
No u are thinking of Jon Vidler. Verto is his own legend.

Glad to be able to listen to some decent music again.

Thank you, thank you for coming back, no other station compares! Loved you before, and loving you even more now, didn’t realise how much I missed this station. Such a blessing especially in these times of lockdown. Thank you.
Used to listen to 3mp when we lived in Gippsland with Dennis Walters some 20 years ago. Just picked you up on my Google Home here in Bundaberg, Queensland. GREAT. Keep up the good work. I
Which Karen launched 3MP?
Great to hear 3MP going again. Living in Sth Frankston i remember when it started in the 70’s Still sounds and feels the same as i remember back then. I still remember the 3MP Ford Bathurst Falcons with the radio station logo across the the back of the cars.
Good luck 3MP
So good to have some really decent music back on the radio, even the ads are pleasant to listen to and not the ear shattering noise of many these days. Keep up the good work.
Have now turned my radio back on,after many years of having it turned off. great to have real music again.
After spending 18 years on air at MP, it’s lovely to see it’s back to where it was… concentrating on the peninsula, and the way it should be. Sadly a succession of management and owners that never really took the time to understand the roots, ethos and culture of a once great radio station, dragged it down over the last 30 years. Good luck to Ace and all
I really enjoy the format and music on 3MP.
But the news each half hour is really aweful.
Apart from coronavirus update it’s always about murders, stabbings, rape. Very little about much else happening in Australia or worldwide. I now turn off the station when the news comes on.
Sadly it overpowers the great music you play.
